One of the reasons Sarasota is such a great place to live is the people. We the people who live here, the things we do and the energy we generate are what make this city great. This site was created for the people of Sarasota, all of us. It is a place where we can share ideas about how we can make Sarasota an even better placed to live. I know you have ideas. We all do. But often times we discount our ideas, or we don’t have a way to make them real. The key to moving ideas into reality is getting enough other people excited about them. Imagine what we could create if we could just get our ideas out and get people excited about them. Consider this site such a place. Let’s get excited about the future!
So now imagine right now is the year 2020. Your dreams for this great city have been realized. Wouldn’t you feel great about what you had inspired? Do you realize this CAN become reality? With the help of the internet, we have the power to reach people in ways never available before. We once needed money or influence to get great things done. Now all we need is a great idea, and a place to share it. The intended goal of this site is to become the bridge to the realization of that future. What improvements or changes do you want? What are you willing to stand for or to support? Let this be a place for your ideas to germinate and grow. This is a place where you can be heard!
I have listed a few topics for possible areas of improvement. But these are not the end. If you think of an area that is not addressed, submit it and it can be added. Submit initiatives you are interest in . If you would like to be a contributor to an initiative, inquire and create it. If you simply want to comment, write it and submit it. This is a community site, any ideas you present offer a better future for us, all are gratefully accepted and heartily encouraged.
I believe that the world can be moved by ideas. But ideas must be shared to become reality. This occurs in conversations. Think of this site as a “hang out” for ideas; share them, comment on them, forward them. Connect with others; the internet gives us the chance to be heard. This is your chance. Let us hear from you.
Lastly, share this site with everyone you know. Give them a chance to be in the conversation. The more people involved, the more you can inspire to help you.
By the way, I would like to thank Tom Kelley of www.KelleyLuxuryHomes.com for providing the beautiful picture of the Ringling bridge at the top of the page. Tom is a realtor with Signature Sothebys who specialized in Siesta Key property.
The power of ideas has shaped the world since the beginning of time. From Joe Q. Neanderthal to the more evolved and aware Joe Q. Public of today, man has grown to not only adapt to his world but has become a social animal that has risen well above other species and made him the ruler of this world.
With superiority of intelligence and societal development came the perception of power experienced by man at different degrees. Unfortunately and based on one man’s ability to comprehend how to acquire and exercise his power, he caused wars, created conflicts at all levels and his innate need to dominate someone or something else only increased with the acquisition of knowledge and the advent of technology.
Over the centuries, this need to dominate demonstrated itself in both good and bad, positive and tyrannical and often downright brutal and repressive. From Attila the Hun to Hitler, Saddam Hussein, Idi Amin, and many others man has demonstrated that there is a fine line between good and evil, constructive and destructive and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.
However, it is obvious, when one considers the numbers, there is a great disparity between good and evil.. It seems obvious that there are more good people than evil on the face of the earth. Then why are there so few evil dictators suppressing the freedom and happiness of so many? Better yet, let’s ask ourselves the question: What can be done about it?
I would tend to believe that more can be done to improve the world than can be done to destroy it. Ronald Reagan, simply with the power of ideas was able to bring down the repressive Soviet Union and East Germany, Winston Churchill was able to bring England to victory after rallying the allies to the common cause of good. Martin Luther King was able to help bring an end to segregation and many more who, by the power of ideas were able to bring positive changes to their countries, their environment, their communities, their neighborhood.
Change never started with more than a spark, a glimpse of an idea and a few individuals to sustain the fledgling idea and make it grow to often unforeseen proportions. This is how the world can be changed and the power of the people who join together to make it happen is a power that cannot be squashed and defeated.
Can you imagine Sarasota in 2020?, what if Gary’s idea was duplicated by others in other cities around Florida? Can you imagine Florida in 2020?? What if this spread to other states? Can you imagine the U.S in 2020? What if it spread to the Western Hemisphere and the rest of the world? Can you imagine the world in 2020?
Gary may not be the one who will take it all the way to the rest of the world but he will always be the one who created the spark, the one who had the idea and for this, I applaud his initiative and his conviction of character. Are you willing and able to join Gary?……..Still thinking?………Just remember that you too can change the world one idea at the time but it has to start somewhere.
