The power of ideas has shaped the world since the beginning of time. From Joe Q. Neanderthal to the more evolved and aware Joe Q. Public of today, man has grown to not only adapt to his world but has become a social animal that has risen well above other species and made him the ruler of this world.
With superiority of intelligence and societal development came the perception of power experienced by man at different degrees. Unfortunately and based on one man’s ability to comprehend how to acquire and exercise his power, he caused wars, created conflicts at all levels and his innate need to dominate someone or something else only increased with the acquisition of knowledge and the advent of technology.

Over the centuries, this need to dominate demonstrated itself in both good and bad, positive and tyrannical and often downright brutal and repressive. From Attila the Hun to Hitler, Saddam Hussein, Idi Amin, and many others man has demonstrated that there is a fine line between good and evil, constructive and destructive and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.

However, it is obvious, when one considers the numbers, there is a great disparity between good and evil.. It seems obvious that there are more good people than evil on the face of the earth. Then why are there so few evil dictators suppressing the freedom and happiness of so many? Better yet, let’s ask ourselves the question: What can be done about it?

I would tend to believe that more can be done to improve the world than can be done to destroy it. Ronald Reagan, simply with the power of ideas was able to bring down the repressive Soviet Union and East Germany, Winston Churchill was able to bring England to victory after rallying the allies to the common cause of good. Martin Luther King was able to help bring an end to segregation and many more who, by the power of ideas were able to bring positive changes to their countries, their environment, their communities, their neighborhood.

Change never started with more than a spark, a glimpse of an idea and a few individuals to sustain the fledgling idea and make it grow to often unforeseen proportions. This is how the world can be changed and the power of the people who join together to make it happen is a power that cannot be squashed and defeated.

Can you imagine Sarasota in 2020?, what if Gary’s idea was duplicated by others in other cities around Florida? Can you imagine Florida in 2020?? What if this spread to other states? Can you imagine the U.S in 2020? What if it spread to the Western Hemisphere and the rest of the world? Can you imagine the world in 2020?

Gary may not be the one who will take it all the way to the rest of the world but he will always be the one who created the spark, the one who had the idea and for this, I applaud his initiative and his conviction of character. Are you willing and able to join Gary?........Still thinking?.........Just remember that you too can change the world one idea at the time but it has to start somewhere.
